Moderate periodontitis

Gum disease

Gum problems starts with bleeding and inflamed gums. First stage of gum disease is gingivitis. Without gum disease treatment develops an early periodontitis. Early periodontitis is when person has a build up of calculus under the gum line and it started to effect gums creating a dental pockets.

Moderate Periodontitis

When the proper treatment for gingivitis is not initiated, the second stage, moderate periodontitis develops. At this stage, brushing and flossing will not suffice to control the situation completely. Even the finest quality toothpaste, toothbrush and dental floss will not be able to get rid of the plaque and bacteria which have clustered around the teeth and gums. Person need to visit the dental hygienist for periodontal disease treatment, deep scaling and oral health advice.

What happens

The bacteria in the oral cavity will be producing acids and toxins. These will be damaging the teeth and gums. Periodontal pockets will become even deeper than before.  The plaque starts to cluster in these periodontal pockets, and the infection will worsen. The periodontal pockets and the plaque clustered inside these pockets will also start damaging the bone around the teeth. It will become infected with the periodontal disease.

The symptoms of moderate periodontitis are often overlooked by people. These symptoms are usually mild and not much more than the symptoms of gingivitis. Some people face the problem of gum recession in the moderate periodontitis.
