Polishing

Polishing

Polishing is the process by which the surface of the teeth are smoothed. This is done with the help of a brush, a rubber cap or an air polisher which is activated by a hand piece or water unit. The perfect combination of the scaling and polishing processes effectively clean the teeth of plaque and tartar, and ensures complete oral health and prevention from periodontal disease.

Dental polishing comes after the scaling has completely removed the tartar and plaque from the teeth. The dental hygienist then evaluates if the patient needs a dental polishing. The polishing is required when there are still stains on the teeth left after the scaling, the polishing process will successfully remove these stains.

After the polishing and scaling, it is recommended that the patient does not eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes. This gives the fluoride applied adequate time to initiate the effect on the teeth.
