Tongue cleaner

The tongue cleaner is a device which is used to remove bacteria, fungi, food particles and dead cells from the surface of the tongue. This is an oral hygiene device which can effectively get rid of the fungi and bacteria on the surface of the tongue. These bacteria and fungi can lead to numerous diseases and infections of the oral cavity and other parts and systems of the body if not removed.

Toothbrushes can also be used for cleaning the tongue, however, since toothbrushes are meant for cleaning teeth and teeth have a solid structure, while a tongue has spongy tissues, cleaning the tongue using a toothbrush is not very effective.

Tongue cleaners are specifically made and designed for cleaning the tongue and hence have the potential to capture and remove the plaque and food particles on the tongue surface effectively. Tongue cleaners are made up of plastic, metal or other materials. In order to achieve optimal results, tongue cleaning gel can also be applied to the tongue cleaner.

An unhygienic tongue which is clustered with bacteria, fungi, food particles, etc can cause bad breath and halitosis. Using a tongue cleaner regularly can prevent and cure this problem. When the tongue is clean, the chances of having bad breath reduce significantly.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is extremely crucial for preventing all types of diseases and infections of the oral cavity. Moreover, bad oral hygiene can also trigger numerous problems pertaining to the general health of the individual. Most people take care of the health of their teeth and gums by brushing and flossing, however, the cleanliness and hygiene of the tongue is often overlooked by many.

The hygiene of the tongue plays a significant role in the hygiene of the complete oral cavity. The surface of the tongue can become an ideal place for bacteria to accumulate and cause diseases if it is not cleaned on a regular basis, with the help of saliva, these bacteria reach the other areas of the oral cavity eventually causing periodontal disease, gingivitis, recession of gums, loss of teeth and other problems.

Besides the problems in the oral cavity, an unhygienic tongue can also cause various problems in general health.
